Institute of Chinese Medical Sciences (ICMS)
State Key Laboratory of Quality Research in Chinese Medicine
(SKL-QRCM, University of Macau)
The Institute of Chinese Medical Sciences (ICMS) was established as the first research-oriented institute in Macau in 2002. Over the past 12 years, ICMS has devoted itself to promoting the research of Chinese medicine and nurturing of local talents in the interdisciplinary fields of biomedical and pharmaceutical sciences. Since December 2010, ICMS has prided itself in hosting the State Key Laboratory of Quality Research in Chinese Medicine – the first ever State Key Laboratory in the broad fields of Chinese medicine, and has gained rapid growth and increasing impact, both nationally and globally. In 2013, the Expert Committee of the Ministry of Science and Technology highly appraised the achievements of the SKL which successfully passed the mid-stage assessment. And in 2014, together with the University of Macau community, ICMS celebrated the relocation to the new Hengqin campus, which has started to provide world-class facilities for the future development of ICMS/SKL.
ICMS currently offers the PhD degree programme in Biomedical Sciences, and Master of Science degree programmes in Chinese Medicinal Science and Medicinal Administration, respectively. With 29 faculty members recruited from top institutions worldwide (among them are Cambridge, Harvard, Yale, Stanford and others), ICMS/SKL promises to build up an international hub for scientific training and technology transfer, and ultimately to position Macau as a dynamic hub of drug development in the region and beyond.
