    Professor Yitao Wang is the Director of the State Key Laboratory of Quality Research in Chinese Medicine (University of Macau, SKL-QRCM), the Director of Institute of Chinese Medical Sciences (ICMS), the Director of the International Research Center for Medicinal Administration at Peking University, and the co-director and secretary general of the Chinese Joint Research Center for Drug Discovery and Development (Built together by Peking University, National Taiwan University, the University of Hong Kong and University of Macau).

    The major research interest of Prof. Wang is systematic quality evaluation of traditional Chinese medicines. He has trained more than 10 PhD graduates, more than 60 master graduates and more than 10 postdoctoral fellows. Over the past decade, he has published more than 240 academic papers (including more than 100 SCI-indexed papers), edited more than 10 academic monographs in both Chinese and English and co-edited 3 monographs, which were published by well-known publishing houses at home and abroad. He has led more than 30 projects, including projects supported by the Macao Science and Technology Development Fund (FDCT), the Innovation and Technology Commission of Hong Kong, the National Basic Research Programme (973 Programme), the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and the National Key Technologies R&D Programme of China.

    In 1999, he was appointed by the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People’s Republic of China as one of the two chief scientists for the first Chinese medicine project under “973 programme”. He has been awarded 9 national and provincial Scientific and Technological Progress Awards.

    In 1993, he was granted the expert to receive special government allowances given by the State Council of China. In 2011, he was awarded the Medal of Merit (Education) by the Macao SAR government. He was appointed as the Dean of the School of Pharmacy, assistant principal and vice president successively of Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), deputy president of China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences and the director of the Institute of Chinese Materia Medica, and the director of the TCM Programme of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.

    He served as honorary professor, distinguished professor and visiting professor in more than 10 well-known universities at home and abroad. He also served as editorial board member for more than 10 international and Chinese academic journals. He served as an expert for the National Science and Technology Programme, the State Science and Technology Progress Award, the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and the National Drug Evaluation Committee. Prof. Wang also actively participates in social services. He is now the secretary general of the International Society for Chinese Medicine and a member of the Executive Council of the World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies.
